COVID 19 Emergency Response - The Community Boxes - Weekly Integrated Food, Activity and Education Boxes to families

Healthy Nutritional Family Food

We are providing weekly essential Food, Personal Hygiene, Activity and Educational contents and support “Community Boxes” to young families identified as the most vulnerable.
By working directly with the local schools, and Council officers we are able to identify and support young families who have lost family income and not yet been adequately provided for by state provision or alternative sources
Each Box will include
- Healthy food
- Toiletries where possible; tooth paste, soap, rolls
- In door Activities for the children
- Educational Materials; Books and support
Education Content and Support

We are observing that there are significant challenges in providing home schooling for these communities. Often there is a "digital divide" (lack of access to computer or broadband internet), and a likelihood of many family members in a small space. This leads to difficulty in finding a quiet space for study and reflection. This is often magnified by a concentration of Tower Blocks and inability to access Green Spaces.
We have also benefit from support from National groups in the provision of the educational materials eg

- Finance St James Place, Robert Gardener
- Roehampton University donating 300+ children reading books
Activity - Arts, Craft, Puzzles and Sport

We are focused on helping physical and mental health dealing, through the provision of age appropriate fund activities that can be done whilst still in a lock down. Initially this was very much arts and crafts eg Colouring, pens and paper, but we are looked to broaden with indoor sporting and activity eg Playdoh
We are coordinating with the Sporting National Governing Bodies to source fun "socially distanced" sports equipment at low or zero costs egTable Tennis

6 Cities, 1250+ families , 6000+ people a week

We are finding that there is a significant unmet need in each of the Cities in which we operate Rackets Cubed programs. Our current expansion has focused on working with our existing partners to establish Hubs from which we evaluate need, and cluster schools. Typically we target to help up to 250 families and therefore approximately 1000 people in total at each Hub. We expect each City will end up with several hubs
- London, 3 sites in Wandsworth and Merton
- Hull, Stoneferry Primary
- Leeds, Hovingham Primary
- Birmingham, Billesley Primary
Important National and Local Food Partners

We are observing large numbers of families who have fallen through the cracks of provision, and have no income to fall back on whilst the lock down is in place. Often there are "newly vulnerable" in that they are not signed into any existing state programs, but have been caught out by the lack of work and no state benefits in the near term.
We have also benefit from support from National groups.

- FareShare, Magic Breakfast
- Dons Local Action Group across SW London
- Several of the Supermarkets are helping individual programs at a store level; Waitrose, Coop, Morrisons
Diversity of Activity Partners

We continue to look for innovative partners that can help us deliver fun indoor based activities to the children. Internet based provision is a challenge given the "digital divide" and tight living spaces
