What we do
We launched the Roehampton Community Box in March 2020 in response to Covid, with the idea of helping local families in primary schools in Roehampton where we were already delivering our core programme. Rackets Cubed was aware that some families were already suffering with food insecurity. We reached out to the local families to gauge interest and immediately had 60 families asking for help within a week. We now support over 180 households within the Roehampton area
In Roehampton we have moved to a social supermarket model where we allow the families to select their own products instead of being handed a ready-made box. This has proved to be very popular with the families. We have copied our original box model in our partner schools throughout the UK and run programmes in Birmingham, Manchester, Walsall, Greater London, and Peterborough. All the programmes operate very much at the heart of their local communities, and we complement that with local food providers (e.g. FareShare, Felix Project, City Harvest and food banks), local businesses (e.g. the Fruit Stall), local charities (Regenerate, Nurture a child and The Hygiene Bank), and other local institutions and faith groups support. Through our wider programmes across the country we support 1,054 families weekly.
