‘It’s a community in a community’ – Nat, RCB hub manager
Our Roehampton Community Box team are doing special things for the people of Roehampton. Not only are they filling cupboards for 100’s of people and families through their successful weekly Social Supermarket, but they’ve also had heartwarming success since launching their Solidarity Suppers.
Every week the team open their doors for people to come and do their weekly shop, swapping just £4 for up to £40 worth of food – fresh food included! But people get more than just their weekly shop, lots of our customers like to hang around for our Community Cuppa.
The Community Cuppa is simple but means so much to many of our customers. They can stick around for a chat with our volunteers and staff, as well as each other, while having tea or coffee and a biscuit.
It was so popular it inspired our Solidarity Suppers largely lead by our customers. Nat works closely with customers to hold a cooking workshop for people who would like to learn how to cook fresh meals, and then everyone sits down together to enjoy the dish they’ve just created – and more to take home!
Sanyc said ‘thank you so much. It was lovely to share a meal with my community. My family felt very welcomed’. Everyone is welcome. That’s why it’s a community within a community and its important we keep being there for people who need our support.
We’re feeding 30+ people and there was already a waitlist within a month of launching.
